Writer Chatter |
Every day, this blog posts a question about writing. The questions range from silly and fun (What is your favorite book and why?) to serious and fundamental (What, exactly, constitutes a Mary Sue?). Then every ask is posted. Sometimes, asks will be posted as answers to other asks so as not to clog up the dashboard. Have fun! |
I’m sorry that i haven’t been very active on this blog. I’m having trouble coming up with questions.
Feel free to submit your own questions and if anyone would be interested in coadmining this blog that’d be reat.
mettalovesmetta asked: in your opinion/s, have "do this crazy junk to win your inheritance" type things been, well.. done to death?
Any old idea can be reused as long as you find a creative way to do it! If you make sure that the story is well written and that it’s not an exact copy paste of ideas from one source, it should still be an enjoyable read.
Generally, how long do you spend on research and/or planning before you begin writing?
technically i’ve been planning what i’m doing right now for years
That’s a very long time!

I apologize for neglecting this blog. A question is on the way and I will try to set up a queue again so that this blog doesn’t become inactive when my life gets hectic.
How do you feel about working with other writers on a project? Have you done so in the past?
I have, actually, with a friend on mine. It wasn’t that we invented a story and wrote it together, it’s more like we discussed the plot and then each of us would write our stories separately and they would intertwine at some point. I liked it and I hope I’ll be able to do it again, but I’d rather write alone :)

Fun to do, but can be jarring to see two different writing styles. An editor is greatly reccomended.

Are you capable of expressing yourself in multiple languages? Which do you prefer to write in? And if not are there any languages you’d be interested in learning?
I’m argentine, therefore my first language would be spanish but I simply cannot read and/or write in spanish. It might be my native language but it’s certainly not my language. I can still write in spanish and get full marks but I’d rather write in english.
I also know french but, even though I’ve been studying it for four years now, I couldn’t possibly write a whole book, not even a short story, in it. I do, however, wish to focus on it this year, given that the past years I didn’t really think of it as important.
At school I will learn Mandarin this year, but I highly doubt that I’ll be able to read or write in Chinese :P
I can somewhat express myself in German. i took German for a year in high school, and three semesters in college and it was cool. I also listen to German music (L’Ame Immortelle, Cephalgy ftw.) so if I want to say something related to that, then I’ll think of angels or whatever and make the song lyrics fit my situation I’m trying to write about.
I used to take Spanish, but got bored with it.

I can express myself in English and Spanish. On tumblr I prefer to write in English, but I write my personal projects in Spanish. I’m interested in learning French. Also, I’m working on developing a multilingual blog.
Only my English is good enough for me to write in (and some days not even that!), but I use Japanese as short hand in my note taking.

What do you want to improve in your writing? What do you want to improve in your writing?
I want to improve on the more technical side of writing as well as improve my vocabulary. I want to also read more books from various genres and time periods to find more inspiration because I find that the more I read the more I find that interests me, and the more I learn. In the end it helps me write better each and every day.
I’m twelve years old, therefore I still have a lot of improving to do before me in the years to come, but right now what I most want to improve is my way of understanding a character. I want to be able to shape a character with all his/her flaws and qualities and really understand the character’s point of view, because I think it’s really important to capture a character and know his/her true colores even though you are not explaining every train of thought you had that lead to this outcome: the character. By the doings of this character I believe that the readers will understand the character in a more specific way.
